What is neuropsychology?
While hard to pronounce, neuropsychology is a specialised area of psychology which focuses on diagnosing and managing conditions which impact the brain. As neuropsychologists, a key area of practice involves cognitive assessments.
What’s involved in a cognitive assessment?
Generally, a cognitive assessment ranges from 1-3 hours and involves testing aspects of brain function including memory, language, attention, thinking, IQ and executive skills. Before the assessment, there is usually a 1 hour initial consultation where we collect relevant information such as medical history and background information. After the assessment, there is an opportunity to discuss test results as well as to provide recommendations and next steps. Overall, we would be spending between 4-5 hours together (but not all in one sitting).
